Have no fear both the changes@aauw-wa.org and feedback@aauw-wa.org have coverage and all of the other state officers are ready to help with any questions you may have while Jim and I are sunning ourselves on the beach in Hawaii. Special thanks to Sue Richart, who has agreed to do branch page changes that might be needed during this time. Use the changes address and it will get to her. The Spokane Convention promises to be educational and a lot of fun. You can read all about it in the Evergreen Leader within a week as it is already being processed for mailing. We want all branches represented with a full delegation. Encourage new members to come. We may have members from Idaho join us, as well. 21st Century Award Applications I know some of you were frustrated by the PDF files on our web site you couldn't download to complete and submit. That problem has been solved. Ellen will send you an application if you have problems, but you should be able to download and submit it without problems. It would be wonderful to have all branches send in an application, as this may be the last year of this particular award program. Even if you did not do everything, such as make the suggested donations etc. your branch has done something and deserves to be honored. High School Scholar Recognition Everything you need to have for your annual scholar recognition is on the web site at: http://www.aauw-wa.org/members/resources/ll_branch_schrecchair.html Judi Edwards, the Scholars Chair, has the gold seals that can be placed on the certificates. The certificate templates are signed and ready to download on your certificate paper. Contact Judi at scholars@aauw-wa.org if you have any questions or want to order the gold seals. Direct comments and questions to feedback@aauw-wa.org AAUW-WA LEADER LETTER, February 26, 2007 MARCH-International Women's Month Early Bird Registration for Convention will end on March 9th! The bargain rate for registrations for the convention will end on March 9th. It is important for leaders to notify all possible delegates to get their registrations in by that date. The "Early Bird" registration fee for the whole convention is the same as the one day rate if you register late. Remember, although the cancellation deadline for a refund of the registration fee is April 10th, you can transfer a registration from one person to another without penalty. Each branch needs to submit only one credentials form. If there are changes in the voting delegates, a second form should be submitted and changes should be clearly marked. Celebrate International Women's Month by Carolyn Wilhite One Shared World. What does this mean to AAUW members? AAUW, in partnership with the Academy of Educational Development, have launched a campaign to raise awareness of global poverty and to generate dialogue about what we, as American women, can do to help tackle the problem. As an individual or in your branch you can: 1) give your time as a volunteer with Global Volunteers as I have in diverse places such as Poland, Vietnam and China. 2) Make your purchases count. Check out Aid to Artisans http://aidtoartisans.org 3) Fund a project in one of more than 60 countries through Global Giving http://www.globalgiving.com/osw.html?RF=Q206mothersday. 4) Start a book club. Visit www.book-clubs-resource.com http://www.book-clubs-resource.com Check out the Association web site for other program and project ideas at: http://www.aauw.org/international_corner/OneSharedWorld.cfm Educational Foundation News by Leah Amyakar As we approach our annual convention date, I will be working on preparing the certificates for branch Educational Foundation Honorees. This is the time when branch boards meet to decide on who will be honored. One person may be named for each branch contribution of $500. While many branches honor a member with outstanding service, others choose to recognize a community member who has supported branch activities. In either case, please submit your names to me either by email at ef@aauw-wa.org or by mail at the address given below by March 31. Any branch not submitting names by the deadline will be given blank forms at convention and their honorees' names will not be included in the printed program. Thank you for your continued support of the Educational Foundation so grants may be provided for post graduate studies and projects. Leah Amyakar, Ed.D. WA State EF Chair 2806 28thAvenue Ct. West, University Place, WA 98466 High School Scholar Recognition by Judi Edwards I regret to notify all of you there is no provision for a display or other methods of presentation of the high school scholars we are honoring in 2007. We will have the Honor Roll on the web site, however. I can still get seals to you in time for most March award dates and the pins can be ordered from Awards West, 1124 Kresky Avenue, Centralia, 800-556-2912. I have checked out the certificates on the web site and they have Connie's signature and are ready to down load. Please send/e-mail me the names of the girls, their award and high school (don't forget your branch name) as soon as you have them so I can get the list on the website. E mail is scholars@aauw-wa.org I Hope to see many of you at convention. Judi Edwards Systems Consulting Group, Inc Taken from State President's list serve What a Branch is doing with the Economic Security Theme and Outreach. "As part of the theme on economic security, a very simple thing our branch is doing is holding a brown bag luncheon at our nearby campus, BGSU, Women's Center, to talk to students about being CREDIT SMART. The presenter will be the head of the Northwest Ohio Consumer Credit Counseling Center. We are worried about the availability of credit cards for students and the amount of debt they build before they ever graduate from college. We also will use this program to increase AAUW's visibility among college-aged women who should be joining now to maintain the vitality of the organization." Diane Regan, President Bowling Green Branch, Ohio Looking to APRIL April 24th is Equal Pay Day You can find the Pay Equity Resource Tool Kit on the pay equity action page on AAUW's website at: http://www.aauw.org/issue_advocacy/actionpages/payequity.cfm The toolkit is a great resource for Equal Pay Day (April 24) as well as for pay equity programming ideas all year 'round. The pay equity action page also has great statistical information, access to AAUW reports on the topic, suggestions on how to start a WAGE club, and other useful resources. You can also get some great ideas at: http://www.aauw.org/issue_advocacy/actionpages/PayEquityIdeasforAction.cfm Deadlines and for the Record by Connie Dunkelberger, State President March 9 Early Bird Registration Deadline March 31 Deadline for Convention Credentials March 31 21st Century Awards Applications Deadline** April 10 Deadline for refund of State Convention registration fee June 30 Deadline for Summer issue of Evergreen Leader ** Ellen Imsland is waiting for the applications to arrive. We want to give a lot of awards this year and give recognition to the great work of all branches. (You still have time to do something special for International Women's Month and use it for your project.) The form is on the web site. You can get the membership numbers and donation dollars from the State Chairs if you do not know what they were for 2006. The membership numbers were recently mailed to branch presidents and membership VPs. This is the number you should use unless you have corrected an error recently. This is a February 1 membership count. The March Member Letter will be sent the end of this week. I usually send a Leader Letter mid-month; however, I wanted to give a last minute push for the Early Bird savings you get for State Convention registration. I hope to see you in Spokane. I would also like you to think about attending the Association Convention in Phoenix. I will have more about that convention in the next Leader Letter. Have a great Women's History/International Women's Month. Connie Dunkelberger Your comments about the monthly Leader Letters or state level activities of any kind are welcome. Please send comments to feedback@aauw.org or use the comment box on the web site. Comments are forwarded to the appropriate state officer. If you received this e mail in error, please accept our apology and notify us at changes@aauw-wa.org and you will be unsubscribed as soon possible. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
