Call to Convention-2008 Lobby Day-January 28, 2008 Join us for AAUW of Washington State's Lobby Day When: Monday, January 28, 2008. Where: First United Methodist Church, 1224 Legion Way SE, Olympia Coffee and check-in will start at 8:00 a.m.; the program will begin at 8:30 and end by 12:45 p.m. Speakers: ? Roxanne Lieb, Director, Joint Legislative Task Force on Basic Education Finance, who will provide a briefing on the work of the task force in addressing the complex issue of funding basic education; ? Shanna Stevenson, Coordinator, Women's History Consortium, Washington State Historical Society, who will focus on the legislative background of the Women's History Consortium; and ? Pam Crone, AAUW-WA Legislative Consultant, who will give up-to-date information on priority legislation and tips on successful lobbying. Lobby Day registration forms are available at www.aauw-wa.org and in the latest issue of the Evergreen Leader. If you want a place to stay overnight on Lobby Day the Olympia Branch has invited AAUW members to stay in their homes for a small donation to LAF. Call Hope Duncan, (360) 943-1592 for information. Hope also has a very limited number of the Lunch/Capitol Play house tickets. This information was in the January Member Letter, which is now on-line. If your branch does not receive a reports, it means I do not have an email address for your appropriate contact person(s). They may contact me so I can add them to my updated list. For those seeking the Named Honoree Pins, we have a limited number of the existing pin available. In the future we will be seeking to create a new pin as they are no longer available from Association. So when you send to me the name(s) of your branch honorees, indicate if you want a Named Honoree pin. Any leftovers will be available at Convention for $5.00 each. Our donations continued to flow in during the fourth quarter and we are doing well as a state for our contributions, all due to the generosity and support of our many helpful members. Women's Oral History Workshop A free Oral History Workshop will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the Washington State History Museum, 1911 Pacific Avenue, Tacoma, Washington from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. This workshop is presented by the Washington Women's History Consortium, part of the Washington State Historical Society. The workshop is free but you must register by February 6, 2008 by e-mailing Shanna Stevenson at sstevenson@wshs.wa.gov or calling 360-586-0171. The workshop will cover oral history techniques, processes, forms and equipment. Call to Convention - 2008 The South Sound District planning committee have exciting plans for the 2008 convention. We are happy to report we received an Association Travel Grant for an LAF plaintiff to be with us. We will also have two recipients of Educational Foundation Fellowships, currently studying in the area, participating with us at the convention (An American Fellow and an International Fellow). You will want to mark your calendars for April 25-27, 2008 and make your reservations with Cross Creek Resort. because Equity is still an issue.
