Two separate *Linux installation sessions* will be offered:
*The first session*, "*Installing Linux*", is for those of you who are
interested in installing Linux on your laptop. The focus of this session
will be on installation and basic commands for operating and utilizing
Linux. You will depart this session with a fully functional Linux machine.
*The second session*, "*Using Linux*", will feature specific Linux
commands. You will learn how to manage, monitor, debug, and
install/modify software. Ultimately you will install IBM software on Linux.
To participate in IBM LinuxFest, *please arrive at the event with your
laptop prepared*:
· *VMware 4.5.2* installed on your personal laptop.
You can download a 30-day trial version of VMware (at no cost) from the
following website:
http://www.vmware.com/download
· A fully charged battery
· Be equipped with a *DVD-ROM, 768 megabytes of RAM and six to eight GB
of available hard drive space*, and a keyboard optimized for English (US).
Note: If you cannot arrive with your personal laptop, you may take
advantage of a very limited supply of loaner IBM ThinkPads .
These sessions are appropriate for individuals with responsibility for
administering or supporting the Linux operating system and for anyone
interested in a hands-on learning experience. You are welcome to select
either section.
