Rod: I am forwarding this to the NOPLUG list. Hopefully someone
will have some comments. (See below for Rod's email that I am
responding to.)

Most people use OS X for usability, not speed.. I like it because it
has the UNIX base and I can use it to do UNIX things (GNOME, KDE
etc.). I have a Windows XP and like it, but everything uses Wizards
and I can't figure out what they are doing. On my OS X machine I can
mount the Windows directories (thru smb). I can use the Windows
machine to view WEB pages on my Mac, but haven't figured out how to
mount any OS X directories. I would like to control my Mac with my
Windows laptop, but I guess i would have to buy XP Professional (I
have the Remote Desktop client on my Mac).

My FC 4 Linux is a disaster! FC 4, for some reason, left out the
NTFS file system out of the Kernel so I can't read my Windows files.
(I might rebuild the kernel with NTFS included, unless anyone has any
idea why I shouldn't--i.e. why doesn't FC 4 have it.) The wireless
card doesn't work, of course (It is a Atheros AR5005G). I may be
able to get it to work with MADWIFI, but haven't had time yet. I
also can't get the Ethernet card to work (Realtek RTL8139/81XX).

My Linux machine is a Toshiba Satellite L25-S119 (Celeron M 360 1.5
GHz). The hardware browser recognizes the Realtek NIC, but the
command ifup ETH0
cannot get the DHCP IP address from my D-Link DI-524 router.
