Dear Chamber members:
Noted below, is an important message from Washington State Ferries
regarding Port Townsend-Keystone reservations and other ticketing
services to help travelers.
The Port Townsend Chamber is hosting a one hour information session
on the PT-Keystone reservation system on Wednesday, May 14th,
Noon-1PM at Fort Worden Commons. We encourage accommodation owners,
event planners, and activity organizers to attend to learn how to
inform their customers of the advantages of this newly implemented no-
cost ferry reservation opportunity.
Thank you

>
> Major system-wide ticketing changes coming
>
> SEATTLE – WSDOT Ferries Division is introducing three changes to
> the ferry system to better serve customers this summer and beyond.
>
> A pilot reservations system will be implemented on the Port
> Townsend/Keystone route starting Monday, May 19 to address the
> route’s unique needs for summer 2008.
> Expiration dates on full-fare, single-ride tickets will be extended
> from seven to 90 days from date of purchase starting Monday, May 12
> on the Port Townsend/Keystone route and Sunday, June 22 on all
> other routes.
> The 30-minute lock-out on multi-ride vehicle tickets will be
> removed as of Thursday, June 5 so customers can share tickets.
>
> These adjustments will provide customers more travel options in
> time for the busy summer season and will address some of the top
> concerns of ferry customers.
>
> “I’m pleased to announce these adjustments that will make our
> system work better with the way our customers want to travel,”
> WSDOT Ferries Division Assistant Secretary David Moseley said. “In
> my visits to ferry-served communities, two of the major issues I’ve
> heard about from our customers are that full fare tickets expire
> too quickly and that the 30-minute lock-out keeps families from
> being able to share multi-ride tickets,”
>
> “The Port Townsend/Keystone reservations program is designed to
> make the best possible use of the limited space on the 50-car ferry
> serving that route,” said Moseley. “During this time while space is
> limited, this program will help our customers better plan their
> travel and give them more assurance of when they’ll be able to get
> on the ferry.”
>
> Port Townsend/Keystone reservations program to begin Monday, May
> 19; advanced reservations available by phone starting Monday, May 12
>
> Just in time for the busy Memorial Day weekend, customers will be
> able to reserve vehicle space on the Port Townsend/Keystone route.
> Travelers are encouraged to make a reservation to reduce wait times
> and to help ease congestion while vehicle capacity is temporarily
> reduced. Until new vessels are built, the route will be served by
> one 50-car vessel sailing every 90 minutes.
>
> Reservations will be for vehicles and motorcycles only. There is no
> fee to make a reservation.
>
> On Monday, May 12, WSDOT will begin taking advanced reservations by
> phone for the Port Townsend/Keystone route for travel on or after
> Monday, May 19. Reservations can be made from 30 days in advance up
> to two hours before a sailing time.
>
> Customers will be able to make advance and same day reservations by
> calling 1-888-808-7977, 206-464-6400 or 511 between 7 a.m. and 9
> p.m. Advance and same day reservations will also be available on
> the Web starting Wednesday, May 21.
>
> Customers with reservations must arrive at the terminal no more
> than 90 minutes before their departure time and at least 30 minutes
> in advance of their departure time or they will forfeit their
> reservation. “Stand-by” customers without a reservation for a
> particular sailing will be allowed to sail only as space becomes
> available.
>
> To travel roundtrip on this route, separate reservations are needed
> for the Port Townsend departure and the Keystone departure. There
> is a limit of one Port Townsend departure reservation and one
> Keystone departure reservation per customer, per day.
>
> Expiration dates for full-fare, single-ride tickets extended to 90
> days
>
> Currently, full-fare, single-ride tickets expire seven days from
> the date of purchase. WSDOT is extending the expiration date to 90
> days from the date of purchase.
>
> This change will go into effect for the Port Townsend/Keystone
> route on Monday, May 12, to make it easier for customers who make
> reservations to purchase their tickets in advance. The change will
> go into effect on all other routes with the start of summer
> schedule on Sunday, June 22. At that time, all full-fare, single-
> ride tickets can be used up to 90 days from the date of purchase.
>
> No more 30-minute lock-out on multi-ride vehicle tickets
>
> Currently, there is a 30-minute lock-out (also known as a “velocity
> lock”) on using multi-ride vehicle tickets. This means that a multi-
> ride vehicle ticket can only be used once in a 30-minute time
> period. On Thursday, June 5, WSDOT will remove this restriction so
> families can share multi-ride vehicle tickets, just as they
> currently can share walk-on tickets. This change does not apply to
> monthly passes because monthly passes are designed for use by a
> single customer.
>
> Once this change goes into effect, a customer will be able to use
> one multi-ride vehicle ticket to pay for multiple vehicles
> (assuming they have enough rides left on the ticket). Customers can
> also make a photocopy of the ticket so the same ticket can be used
> at the same time by different customers on different routes.
>
> More information about these programs is available online at
> www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries or by calling 1-888-808-7977.
