Here is the week ahead:
Thursday July 3: Groundbreaking for the Education Buildings
Northwest Maritime Center. It's today at 3:00 at Pope Marine Park
Thursday July 3: Concerts on the Dock - it's finally here!
Tonight's band is the Navy rock band, Passage. Due to the weather,
they will be playing inside at the Water St. Brewery, from 6 - 8,
right next to the Quincy St. dock. Come enjoy this first in a series
of free Thursday night concerts. This week is sponsored by Port
Townsend Elks Lodge #317.
The Concerts on the Dock runs thru September 4th in partnership with
major sponsors Peninsula Daily News, Puget Sound Energy, First
Federal, Water Street Brewery and Ancestral Spirits Gallery.
Next weeks band will be New Faces, the Port Townsend High School band
that won this springs Battle of the Bands at Seattle EMP. Be sure to
support Port Townsend youth with this up and coming band.
Friday July 4th: Fourth at the Fort - a free community event at Fort
Worden State Park. Scheduled are games, from 6-8pm and the Port
Townsend Sunrise Rotary fireworks show at 10:00pm. Jefferson Transit
begins shuttle service to Fort Worden at 4pm. Service concludes 30
minutes after the conclusion of the fireworks show.
Friday July 4th: Fourth Food Fest at Union Wharf is from 10am -
2pm. The fundraiser for Shelter Boxes, a worldwide relief project is
sponsored by Port Townsend Sunrise Rotary and features live music.
Friday July 4 - Saturday July 5 - Centrum presents the Festival of
American Fiddle Tunes. Friday night's Cajun dance begins at 7:30
featuring the Pine Leaf Boys and offers gumbo for eats and a bonfire
for country atmosphere. (tickets are $10)
Other performances are Friday at 1:30, Saturday at 1:30 and at 7:30
in McCurdy Pavillion. See www.centrum.org for complete schedule.
Monday July 7, noon - 1:00, Fort Worden Commons. The Port Townsend
Chamber weekly luncheon. The first speaker for the month of July
will be Adm. James A. Symonds, commander of Navy Region Norhwest and
he will speak to Realizing the Importance of Sea Power in the 21st
Century. The maritime domain supports 90 percent of the world's
trade. The sea services of the 21st century must ensure stability
when conflicts threaten this tightly connected global economic
system, according to Symonds.
