Quimper Sound Music & Media
W. Washington's Oldest Independent Record Store
Newsletter Vol.3 No.15 4/21/06

Greetings from Quimper Sound! It looks like it's going to be a beautiful day on Saturday. What better way to cap off Earth Day than an evening of exquisite chamber jazz at the Upstage! We're going to continue our 30% off sale on all things Wayne Horvitz in celebration of the concert Saturday night. There are still plenty of tickets left - so make your dinner reservations and get a great seat for the concert event of the season. For more details about Sweeter Than The Day and Wayne Horvitz see below - if you're curious you can hear a 'taste' here and here:
Quimper Sound is proud to present Wayne Horvitz and his band Sweeter Than The Day live at the Upstage on Saturday April 22nd! Mr Horvitz is world renowned as a composer, pianist and bandleader and his recordings with his latest ensemble have garnered rave reviews both here and abroad:
"Horvitz' understanding of country, blues, folk and even singer-songwriter-type music is made quite plain on this CD. None of these elements are represented in an obvious way, and that's perhaps the main reason why this disc appeals so strongly. The strength of the music lies in Horvitz' beautifully crafted compositions. Like Monk and Herbie Nichols, Horvitz is able to create memorable and distinctive melody lines from seemingly disparate, even mundane, motifs and phrases." - Dave Wayne, Jazz Weekly
"... towards a quietly powerful chamber modernism full of eclectic composerly acumen that makes dreamlike reference to jazz, country, folk and hymn-like material. Delightful and original." - Chris Ingham, Mojo (UK)
...and on and on. Tickets are only $15 and are available at the store. We expect there will be a lot of folks coming into town from Seattle, etc. to see this show so we recommend that you get your tickets early. Please join us for this very special event.
One last note: Our special orders overfloweth - so if you've got one waiting for you - or even if you don't - come on down and enjoy one of the last pre-tourist weekends downtown. As always, feedback is much appreciated - keep it coming to: feedback at quimpersound.com - thanks! And now, on with the show . . .
