Washington's Oldest Independent Record Store Newsletter Vol.3 No.1 1/12/06 Greetings from Quimper Sound and Happy New Year! I'm back (barely) with a new computer and ready to "inform your socks off". First of all, if you haven't been in since the holidays, we've moved things around just a little bit. Not too much - 'cause we know how much it annoys you. But we had to do a little shuffling just to try and give every section its due. So try and follow along: 1) Soundtracks have moved back to being at the far right of the DVD racks. 2) Blues is where Classical used to be and Classical is now opposite the DVD racks (this happened a while ago but is still tripping people up a bit) 3) The Local Music section is now where the Holiday music had been (come in the door, head straight, take a left at the fork then turn and face to your right). 4) Country is now back next to Bluegrass - come in the door take your first right and go to the end of the aisle then face right. 5) The rack in the aisle between Jazz and Blues now contains all manner of sale items including: a) Jazz and Blues Festival Overstock (all 30% off) b) Used DVDs (priced to move) c) Sale used CDs (many only $1) d) "Scuffers" used CDs (none more than $4): Don't worry, most of us who work here know where everything is - so just ask if you can't find it. Still real slow where new releases are concerned - they should start picking up in February. Oh, and a big shout out to all of you who are using the Website to special order - it is much appreciated. As always, feedback is much appreciated - keep it coming to: feedback@quimpersound.com - thanks! And now, on with the show . . . -Contents- 1. New Releases Coming 1/12 2. Washington's Oldest Independent Record Store Newsletter Vol.3 No.1 1/20/06 Greetings from Quimper Sound! First of all, a moment of silence for Wilson Pickett. As I mentioned on Sound Off he passed yesterday. Often overlooked, he was perhaps the greatest soul singer of his generation (and what a generation of soul singers it was). On a happier note, the labels are starting to see fit to begin letting some new releases trickle out. Of particular interest (to me, anyway) is the Tortoise/Bonnie Prince Billy collaboration - I'll be checking that out on Monday... Also, we just revamped the website a bit and it's worth checking out if you haven't been in a while. In our continuing attempt to make the site more user-friendly, I've added a 'Browse By Genre' search on the left navigation bar. This is a fun tool which allows you to browse specific sub-genres of music. For instance, under "Jazz - Instrumental" there are *54* sub-categories including "Accordion", "Avant Garde/Downtown", "Composer Songbook" and "Tribute Albums". This is a great way to just hang out and explore - with sound clips for most albums you'll be able to discover all kinds of music you might never have gotten a chance to listen to otherwise. On the home page we are now featuring special deals that can only be got online as well as advertising what's currently on sale in the store. Speaking of which, we now have a nice selection of *new* DVDs on sale downtown - at cost or below! These aren't rejects - there is a lot of good stuff - some titles include: Jesus Of Montreal, 24 Hour Party People, Sessions For Robert J (Clapton), Standards (Jarrett/Peacock/DeJohnette), The Manchurian Candidate and much more. Great deals. As always, feedback is much appreciated - keep it coming to: feedback@quimpersound.com - thanks! And now, on with the show . . . -Contents- 1. New Releases Coming 1/24 2. Washington's Oldest Independent Record Store Newsletter Vol.3 No.3 1/27/06 Greetings from Quimper Sound! Not much to report this week, though there are a few interesting new releases. There is a European label that is starting to put out 10 CD box sets of major jazz artists and classical works. I'll be getting a couple of them in next week and checking them out. I'll report back - if they have what it takes I'll let you know and start stocking a variety of sets - if they don't, we won't stock 'em. Stay tuned. A reminder to check out the website for new "Web-only" deals as well as to check in on what's on sale downtown.
