We've got a couple announcements - so lets get right to it! First, we want to let everyone know that we're shutting down our online commerce site and returning to a more local information/reviews format. The online store was fun but it wasn't as focused on things local - like ticket sales and employee reviews - as we want it to be going forward. In fact, most of the orders we recieved were from out of state! Look for the new, revamped site to be up by the middle of next week. Second, we want to announce that we're bringing back Wayne Horvitz. This time local and national legend Danny Barnes will be joining Wayne and his band Sweeter Than the Day for another night of eclectic music (from chamber jazz to polka to psycho-billy) from some of the finest musicians on the planet. Tickets are only $12 - get 'em at Quimper Sound - or call and make reservations at the Upstage and be guaranteed a great seat (385-2216). Ask anybody who at the last show - this might be the most enjoyable live music you'll hear all year! For his return engagement in Port Townsend, Horvitz has enlisted legendary banjo player and composer Danny Barnes as his very special guest. Mr. Horvitz is world renowned as a composer, pianist and bandleader. In addition to his extensive credits as a leader and solo artist he has performed with a huge variety of artists with an enormous diversity of styles - from Fiona Apple to John Zorn. His recordings with his latest ensemble have garnered rave reviews both here and abroad: "... towards a quietly powerful chamber modernism full of eclectic composerly acumen that makes dreamlike reference to jazz, country, folk and hymn-like material. Delightful and original." - Chris Ingham, Mojo (UK) Danny Barnes is an equally accomplished and well traveled musician. He's played with everyone from Bill Frisell to Chuck Leavell, composed original music for "The Newton Boys" and... "As founding member of Austin's notorious Bad Livers, banjoist/guitarist and singer/songwriter Danny Barnes staked his claim as a traditionalist who didn't mind breaking the rules by irreverently mixing punk, rock, rockabilly, and even touches of techno into the bluegrass formula." - Hal Horowitz, All Music Guide A match made in Heaven (Port Townsend) - this show promises to be an evening of musical hijinx of the highest order. Sweeter Than the Day is Wayne Horvitz - Piano and Keyboards, Timothy Young - Guitars, Keith Lowe - Acoustic Bass, and Andy Roth - Drums.
